Fellowship

The Museum of Vestigial Desire announces a fellowship process for editors, readers and designers. For people who play all the three functions at the same time.

The process of the fellowship will include selection of texts from our archive, editing the texts in correspondence with the authors and the design of the final publication. We will commit to producing and distributing the book each fellow produces.

Archives need to produce records constantly in order to have certain marker of time that in turn produces multiple histories later. These markers are also means of consolidating and building up on narrative threads which will otherwise get buried under the sediments of time.

This process is not oriented towards the validation of our practices but for the questioning, assessment and a possible challenging of our practices also. In response to an invitation, fellows can propose an intervention that they would like to undertake in the book that they edit and design. Such interventions can involve commentary or a note-taking structure in order to further interaction or explore some other parameters of readership.

The book and the culture of readership it produces will add to the array of experiences and functions we can serve and expand our scope of operation. From the production of context to the reception and the creation of other relationships which can be narrated and captured in different ways.

Eventually the relationships we have to form with people are of text in the spaces that they occupy and navigate. The books will be pivots to start this process.

Bookmaking is about drawing bounds and degrees around scopes and spans. But if there is no dimensioned space, how will scopes and spans will be calculated? That is the reason we are laying down a common size for all book manuscripts. Each book will consist of seventy-five texts each. There might be overlaps between the books and that only brings us more circular joy.

The scopes and spans fill the vacuous and empty shells of the buildings we live in and slowly an architecture evolves. When this architecture emerges, suddenly our habitat becomes dignified dwellings. We find that our environment empathises with us and allows us to express effectively. For all the time that we have complained that our habitat is numb to our sensibilities, a small seed has somewhere taken soot to resolve our problems. The world has been supportive to our desire for supportive architecture. A supportive architecture is one which allows us to relate to our text as if it were an envelope that has surrounded us with meaning.
