Alternatives don't exist

tags: re-configuration published on:

There is only one system. Alternatives are not possible. When we survey the landscape of choices that exist for you, when we see how confused you are, we understand that you have been misled. You have been told that this and this is the central system and it survives in such and such ways, either directly based on the market or some secondary or tertiary layer above it, depending on what we are talking about. Then you are told that this central system leaves lots of spaces open and these spaces are catered to by ancillary systems that in effect are alternatives to the nature of activities that the central system allows. We would like to tell you that this is a lie. We would like to inform you that you should now refrain from practicing any form of niche activities which the market does not have a space for unless for reasons of fulfilling your personal angst and fancy.

Alternatives today are just bad deals that no one agrees to be a party to. They get repackaged in values and languages that inspire guilt, sympathy and an unnatural urge that feigns openness and tolerance and celebrates diversity. These symptoms mark a territory as alternative. The alternative stands not for alternatives for the public, or for the audience. It stands for the alternative logic systems that are required to make sense of them. This has worked in the past but only in a specific way. It has worked in the sense of being the wine-tasting occasion for a novice explorer of the alcoholic spirits. But after the novice has tasted she is drunk all the same, but drunk on fragments of bad experiments some of which might actually have been pee with honey-acid or sugar. Then she thinks that getting drunk on a full bottle of some spirit guaranteed to be non-toxic might have been a better idea. Alternatives are not alternatives because they do not quench the thirst in an alternative way, they do not riddle our mind full of strange distractions with an alternative source of warmth, comradeship or a lens that offers a peek to a different view. Alternatives are just entities that short-circuit their evolution to find an occasion for self-pandering themselves to the masses.

Everything is a part of the same network of singularities as everything else and they can make some sort of sense from within it. In this network there is light and shade, fast traffic and slow and in that gradation is the space for embedding surfaces. The whole of a specific alternative can reside fully in this gradation. For the user community, it is more viable to scan the depths of a specific network for solutions offering a different flavour than even think of alternatives as being entirely different dimensions.

The thought that alternatives can even exist should exit our minds. We have to lose ourselves in this forest, it is the only one there is.
